Director of rugby Conor O'Shea says Quins winger Marland Yarde can continue to build on his current good form.

The 23-year-old, who joined the club last summer, agreed a contract extension at the Stoop this week having impressed in west London this term.

The England international, who has scored nine tries in 30 appearances for Harlequins, had a disappointing first season at the club last term following his switch from London Irish.

Yarde had seemed a certainty for England's World Cup squad having made such an impact in three Tests during his country's tour of New Zealand in 2014.

But his form dipped last season as he missed out on former head coach Stuart Lancaster's final cut for the doomed campaign.

Eddie Jones' appointment as Lancaster's replacement will have given the St Lucia born star's hopes of an international return a boost.

And O'Shea believes being with a club competing for silverware this term will only help the former Whitgift School student.

“Marland is a young man with boundless potential and we will work with him to make sure he fulfils it," he said.

“He combines pace, power, physicality and footwork allied to the fact that he is a good footballer.

"We are delighted that Marland has committed and know within this group he will go from strength to strength.”

Yarde added: “Since joining, I’ve enjoyed being part of a great team with some exceptional players. We have a side that is truly capable of beating anyone and I’m excited to be a part of that.

“We have started this season well and I’m pleased with my personal form.  It was a very easy decision to make.”
