Wimbledon proved far too strong for Beckenham in London Division One South running out 49-3 winners.

With Wimbledon fielding virtually their strongest team, the tries came at regular intervals – and there more positive news after number eight Gary Crowe and flanker Chris Lewis made a return to action off the bench after a long lay-off through injury.

Beckenham opened the scoring after five minutes after a high tackle in front of the posts saw their centre James Curr take an easy kick to give them the lead – but that was as good as it got for the hosts.

By half-time Wimbledon led 25-3 thanks to two tries from Jack Fishwick, a Tommy Moore score and 10 points off Neil Hallett’s boot.

In the second half, while Rhys Morgan, Hallett and Crowe (two) crossed the whitewash, with Hallett adding two conversions.

What must have impressed the coaching team was the spells of domination in all phases of the game.

Scrum and lineout went well and the back row were first to the breakdown for nearly all of the game - credit here to the Wimbledon flankers Rob Tait and Steve May.

In the centre, Neil Brown made some powerful runs and at full back Tommy Moore showed his technique when he stopped Beckenham second row Pat Hooton in his tracks with a powerful tackle.

Wimbledon, who climbed to fifth in the table after Saturday's win, host Sutton & Epsom this weekend (kick off 2.15pm).
