Rosslyn Park moved to within a point of National League One leaders Ealing Trailfinders, but head coach Alex Codling is far from getting carried away.

Instead, Codling wanted to focus on the army of devoted fans who decided to watch Park beat Darlington Mowden Park 29-19 rather than England beat the Aussies.

Codling also talked up this weekend’s opponents Tynedale ahead of the trip to Northumberland.

Ealing went down 32-26 at Coventry – their first defeat of the season – while Park’s Hugo Ellis, Mike McFarlane and Sam Shires got the tries, and Louis Grimoldby the extras, to see Park to their 10th consecutive win.

Codling said: “The work ethic and intensity was outstanding on Saturday against a very physical and well organised Darlington team.

“It was highlighted by the fact we scored the bonus point try [including a penalty try] when we were down to 13 men.

“A special mention for the supporters who turned out in excellent numbers despite the England game, it meant a huge amount to the players.”

He added: “This Saturday sees us make the trip to Tynedale, which is a personal favourite of mine.

“Despite a couple of tough results lately, their recent home win against Fylde shows that we will have to be at our best to get the result we would like.”

There was another bright note for Codling when, in an injury-hit season, scrum half Luke Carter returned to the bench for last Saturday’s match following a long absence after breaking his jaw in three places.
