Tani's new lease of life

Harlequins hooker Tani Fuga has revealed the brand of rugby the team is now playing has persuaded him to extend his Stoop career.

Fuga, who had considered retiring at the end of this season, has hit top form in recent weeks, persuading boss Dean Richards to offer him a new one-year deal.

The Samoan international, who has been at the club for eight years, admits the side's lofty position in the Guinness Premiership and the young talent within the squad is behind his decision to stay.

"I have been asked to stay on and at this stage it is most likely I will," he said "I would like to one day win a trophy, the Premiership or even just make to make the play-offs.

"To be part of a squad that does that would be a big achievement for me.

"The brand of rugby we are playing now is a good reason for me to stay as it suits me.

"The younger boys have so many skills and are really enjoying their rugby.

"It is rubbing off on the whole squad, especially us old boys in the forwards.

"They are making us all work harder."

Quins were involved in another exciting match on Sunday, earning the consolation of a bonus point even though they were beaten 29-25 by London Wasps at Adams Park.

Things looked bleak at 23-10 down at half-time, despite Hal Luscombe's try being converted by Adrian Jarvis.

But Quins came back strongly in the second half, with Ugo Monye racing 70m to score their second try and Tom Guest darting over after a quick tap penalty from Danny Care.

This Sunday, Quins host Bath in the Premiership, with Fuga hoping that if he scores a try on this occasion he will actually get the credit!

A fortnight ago, Fuga's try gave Quins and early advantage against Gloucester, but it was Ceri Jones who took the plaudits despite video evidence proving otherwise.

"It has happened to me twice now. Jim Evans stole one off me in National Division One," revealed Fuga.

"But I wan't bothered then and I'm not too bothered now.

"I got up and walked away with the ball, but the camera zoomed in on Chris Robshaw patting Ceri Jones and he was given it.

"If it was someone else I would argue, but we are good friends."

"I think that win was the best of the recent run, because Quins don't usually come from behind that well."
