Two years ago flanker Joe Trayfoot helped Harlequins lift the LV= Cup and was nominated for the competition's breakthrough player of the year award.

Fourty eight appearances on from his senior debut and the 23-year-old former London Scottish loanee has switched to Premiership rivals London Irish.

Quins director of rugby Conor O'Shea was understandably disappointed to see the England U16 and U18 international quit the Stoop.

''It is always a pity when you see a player move on, but more so someone like Joe who has come through our academy system and has been supported by so many people," he said.

''However, it is part of the game now and players will move for many reasons. We wish Joe well and are sure he will continue to improve as a player.

"I also know how committed he is to finishing his Harlequins career in the manner he would want as it will always be his club''

Trayfoot added: "I had a good conversation with the London Irish rugby committee and it is clearly a very ambitious set up heading in a really promising direction.

"The facilities are world class and I cannot wait to get started.”
