Wimbledon RFC head coach James Ogilvy-Bull admitted that last weekend’s break from rugby was fortunately timed following the injury to Jack Fishwick.

The club was left in shock after the 26-year-old second row broke his neck in the London Division One South game at Haywards Heath on March 8.

While that match was completed, the final round of the Six Nations tournament on March 16 meant there was no further action for Wimbledon until this weekend’s visit of Sidcup.

Bully said: “It was good we did not play as it gave everyone associated with the club time away from rugby.

“They would go home to friends and family, and relax away from the pitch and the club.

“Everyone has their own way of coming to terms with events, but it was good we had the chance to switch off as much as possible.”

The side return to action tomorrow, but without any promotion or relegation issues, they are looking to win the battle for fourth spot in the table.

Wimbledon finished fourth last season, and Bully is determined the side will not end the season slowly and take a step backwards.

“Sidcup and us are on the same points, so this will be a difficult game as every club wants to finish as high as possible,” he said.

“Then we face Staines who, although they are effectively relegated they will be wanting to go out with a bang.

“After that it’s the leaders Chichester, and they will be giving everything to win the league and not have to settle for a play-off spot.”

He added: “We need to make sure we don’t slack off, in any of the remaining games.”
