After back-to-back defeats in National League One, Rosslyn Park coach James Buckland got the reaction he wanted last weekend.

Lovejoy Chawatama and Adam Frampton got the tries, and Tom Whiteley kicked the extras, that saw Park beat Ampthill 17-10 on Saturday at the Rock.

The win lifted Park to sixth, two points behind Ampthill.

Buckland said: “We needed a reaction, and we got one. We stuck at it right the way through and by playing right to the death we got our reward.

“Heads might have dropped after we butchered three opportunities in the opposite corner to the one where we scored minutes before, but the energy remained high.”

He added: “There’s plenty to work and build on, but the boys worked their socks off in training this week, and they deserved that.

“It’s going to be another real test of our metal on Saturday at Coventry, but it’s another opportunity to gauge where we as a group and it will shine a spotlight on the strength of not only our playing ability, but also on the mental side.”
