Blistering Tom up to seventh

New Malden's Tom Onslow-Cole put his best weekend in the British Touring Car Championships down to a blistering qualifying lap that landed him pole position for the opening race.

The 20-year-old VX Racing star, in only his second season in the championship, claimed podium finishes in each of the three races at Donington Park on Sunday.

A second and two third-place finishes moved him seventh in the drivers' championship after notching his first ever pole.

He could have won the first race but for a slip on lap 14.

Onslow-Cole said: "I am a bit gutted about making a mistake in the first race as it cost us a win. Looking back, I much prefer three podiums and a load of points rather than one win."
