ew Malden’s Tom Onslow-Cole says a strong finish to the British Touring Car Championship will help decide where his future lies, writes Matt Maltby.
The 24-year-old Team Aon driver, who races at Knockhill this weekend, is yet to secure a drive for 2012 but has one thing on his mind.
“I would rather focus on finishing the championships as strong as possible. It’s hard to say what will happen next year. I’m still enjoying the competitiveness of the Championship,” he said.
Onslow-Cole started the campaign in the VW Golf of AmD Milltek, but returned to former employers Team Aon in June and has secured two top 10 finishes since.
But he says the car needs more development before he and the team has a chance of making the next step onto the podium.
“The car’s been in its first year and it’s always a case of the car taking its time to develop,” he added.
“We had a few issues with the car such as the suspension and the aero-dynamics, but we’ve been doing development on the car with each race.”
With only four races remaining, the Kingston-born racer needs points to surge up the overall standings.
“I enjoyed the last race at Snetterton and I’m obviously looking to improve my performance,” he said.
