She may be only 11 years old, but Georgie Forbes of Richmond Gymnastics Association proved age is no barrier by making a “dream come true” and winning bronze at the World Age Group Championships last month.

The youngster was competing for Team GB in her first international tournament, held in Denmark, in the 11 to 12-year-old tumbling category, making her one of the youngest to perform.

After qualifying for the final in sixth place, Forbes bagged the highest execution score to land third place and high praise from her coach Kath Small.

She said: “I’m pleased that she managed to control her nerves and cope with the pressure of competing in her first international competition. “Our aim was to make the final and once there I told her to enjoy the experience and the result would take care of itself. I couldn’t be happier for her.”

Forbes added: “I had an amazing time in Denmark at my first World Championships and I am so pleased with my bronze medal, it’s a dream come true.”

Clubmates Harry Leaddley and Alice Kelly were also in action for Team GB, finishing 13th in the 15 to 16 age group, and 15th in the 13 to 14-year-old age group respectively.
