Kingston & Polytechnic Harrier claimed a third successive Southern Athletics League Division Three South on Saturday without distance runner Phoebe Law.

The 18-year-old junior Great Britain cross country international had better things to do – namely claim the English U20 women’s 3,000m title at Bedford on Sunday.

The Surbiton High School student clocked nine minutes 36.72 seconds to win gold – one second ahead of nearest rival 19-year-old Grace Barker, who set a personal best of 9:37.74.

Only three seconds separated the top four finishers in the final straight.

Meanwhile, Harriers athletes dominated in league action at Wimbledon Park as they collected a staggering 31 A and B string event wins.

Throws specialist Chris Dack claimed his customary shot (15.27m) and Discus (45.48m) wins to be named male athlete of the match.

Walton Athletics Club, who were only able to field a six-strong women’s squad, struggled in their Division One match at Brighton & Hove.

The Stompond Lane club finished last and slipped ninth in the league table..

l Kingston & Polytechnic Harrier Pippa Earley justified her selection with a pair of event wins at the South East Schools Inter County Championships in Erith on Saturday.

The 14-year-old clocked 11.28 seconds to win the U15 girls’ 75 metre hurdles and then set a mark of 5.62m to win the U15 girls long jump.

Walton’s Sophie Mace won the U17 girls’ discus with a throw of 43.33m, while brother Sam won the U15 boys’ hammer with an effort of 54.28m.
