St George's Hill Squash Club's Borja Golan need not have made the effort to appear in his side's Premier Squash League semi-final triumph over Coolhurst in Weybridge on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old Spaniard, who arrived late after his flight from the contient was delayed due to high winds, was not required as team boss Danny Lee's squad won 4-1 to set up a trip to Cambridgeshire where they face Duffield in the final tomorrow night.

Walton pair Tom Richards and Joe Lee and Kingston's Charles Sharpes all triumphed 3-0, 3-2, and 3-0 respectively to give their team an unassailable 3-1 lead after competition debutant Georgie Ingham had lost the opening match of the night.

It meant former world number five Golan's 2-1 win over Cameron Pilley was effectively a dead rubber in front of a sell-out crowd.

And the emphatic victory left Lee - 25-year-old Joe's dad - warning rivals they face a stiff test to stop St George's from claiming the crown.

"We’ve been trying and trying with this team, so I’m very proud to have made the final for a second time, especially with a team of mostly home-grown players – it could have been five if Borja hadn’t been able to get here," he said.

“Joe [Lee] managed to win when he wasn’t playing well and Tom [Richards] won when he was playing well, but came up against a very tough opponent in Greg [Lobban].

“It’s a credit to the club, the support that our sponsors have shown us over the years, and to have 220 people here tonight was just amazing.

“It’s all happening at St George’s, we have a new PSA $25,000 tournament in October, but now we just need to concentrate on the final – watch out Duffield.”
