Surbiton head coach Todd Williams does not mind the heavy fixture schedule because it means his men are in the hunt for more silverware.

Williams’ side welcome MHL Premier Division table toppers East Grinstead to Sugden Road on Saturday before facing off against Beeston in the Men’s Cup quarter final less than 24 hours later.

Victory on Saturday will see Williams’ men usurp last season’s champions as league leaders with six games left to play.

And Williams is confident his side can make the most of its strong position.

“I’m happy to be involved in as many matches and competitions as possible,” said Williams.

“When you are playing more often, players are happy and performances look after themselves.

“It’s good to be in a position where we are playing in a lot of big games rather than having seven meaningless matches.”

With no new injury concerns, and Wales international keeper David Kettle set for a return, Surbiton are in high spirits.

East Grinstead’s defeat struggling Southgate, last weekend has left Surbiton a point off the summit with a game in hand on their rivals.

Williams said: “That defeat means we can relax and play our natural game.

“It’s not the end of the world if we don’t come away with a win, but if we can that’s a real bonus for us.

“There are seven league games left and we’re focused on all of them and not just Saturday. We’re up for the challenge”
