Walton Athletics Club brother and sister pair Sam and Sophie Mace were the toast of Elmbridge on Friday night.
 

Sam, 13, was crowned junior sports personality of the year  having won Surrey County Championship shot putt, discus, hammer and javelin gold in the summer.
 

Older sister 15-year-old Sophie – who won the junior title in 2011 – collected the youth category award after finishing the summer ranked number one in the UK for her age in discus and shot and winning English Schools gold in the former.

Senior sports personality of the year went to World Sprint Canoe Championship bronze medallist Edward Rutherford, while Molesey Boat Club collected the senior team of the year.
 

Surbiton Hgockey Club collected the Mick Burgess club of the year award at the awards ceremony hosted by Danes Hill School and sponsored by Sandown Park.

Chairman of the Elmbridge Sports Council Cllr Barry Cheyne said: “The London 2012 Olympic Games have been a such an inspiration and we now have next year’s  Commonwealth Games to look forward to.

"In Elmbridge, we are determined to encourage people of all ages to get involved in sport and are proud to have so many local athletes dedicated to reach even higher levels of performance.

"We must remember that their goals could not be met without the hard work, dedication, and skill of the coaches and sports clubs in the borough”.
