Furious Swans boss looks to the future

Staines Town boss Steve Cordery admits he is still seething after seeing the Swans' promotion hopes go up in smoke at the weekend.

Leading AFC Wimbledon 1-0 in the Ryman League Premier Division play-off final with less than 10 minutes to play, Staines conceded two late goals to slump to an agonising defeat.

But it was Dons' equaliser, with Jon Main appearing to impede Town keeper James Courtnage in the build-up, that raised the former Hampton & Richmond manager's ire.

He said: "Of course I am still angry about it but I cannot do anything about it now.

"It was a ridiculous decision and I am fed up that these people referees keep getting away with it. It is very hard to take."

Matt Flitter's first-half header appeared to be sending Town into Blue Square South as the home side bossed the opening half.

But Luis Cumbers profited from Courtnage's fumble with seven minutes remaining, before Mark DeBolla struck with seconds remaining to send Dons up.

Cordery insisted he was proud of his men, saying: "I thought we dominated the game, to be honest.

"If we could have taken more of our chances, it would have been a different story.

"But I could not have asked for more from the players."

Cordery will now set about plotting a new promotion assault for next season.

And the Staines supremo admitted decisions would have to be made.

He added: "I will have to sit down with the chairman and see where we go from here.

"There is a good squad here but things will obviously depend on who we can bring in. I can only work with what I am given."

I would like to point out that the report ins not acurate as to the incident that mr cordrey talks about maim was on where near the keeper.
RIGHT lets talk about mr flitter SC was happy he scored but mr Fltter should have been red carded for bring down main as was las man.

and in second half again Main was brought down in area should have had a pen.
I think mr Cordery should have a look at the match before he starts throwing things

I really don't know who is more out of order here. The reporter who did not get his facts right - was he even at the game? - or Mr Cordery for still moaning about the Referee's poor decisons - was he even at the game either?

I think it is time Mr Cordery picked up his toys and grows up. Having suffered the heartache of two years of playoff failure we understand the pain but he lost. AFCW should have been awarded a penalty and the Staines scorer should not have been on the pitch after bringing down the AFCW forward when he was through on goal. Yes Staines dominated large parts of the game but at the end of the day they scored less than there opponents and therefore lost. Remember how it works? Move on now.

Unfortunately I couldn't get to the game and had to listen to the commentary provided by the Staines Town radio team(who were excellent) as the final second rolled away there was no animosity from any of the Staines commentators... just a mutual respect for both teams giving their all to a fantastic match. Terry Brown's comments after the game paid nothing but homeage to the great effort Staines put into the game. It's a shame that Steve Cordery has resorted to this level. After seeing the goal and other key moments in the match I have to say that the referee was spot on with all the major decisions. It's great for football that AFC are heading back towards the football league... and I'll finish by saying good luck to Staines for next season.

Time for Mr. Cordery to move on, I agree. Crying over spilt milk never did anyone good.
