Blake Aldridge qualified comfortably for the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series last week and now has his sights set on competing with the best.
The 29-year-old from Norbury, who reached the Olympic 10m synchronised diving final alongside Tom Daley in 2008, came second in the qualifying competition in Australia to book his spot on the seven-leg series.
He led for most of the two days but lost out on the final dive and is now to begin work on his preparations for the start of the Series in France in June.
“I’ve got a new dive, which I planned to do in Australia, but I didn’t need to,” he said.
“I’m going to put an extra twist on my arm stand dive, which will give me the equal highest diving difficulty for a dive in the series.
“That’s my next goal, to come back to England and learn how to do that well to compete with the top guys on the tour.
“To be in the series now is massive, I am over the moon.
“What can I say? It’s what I came here to do and that’s what I’ve done.
“I’ve lead the first day and all the way through the second competition and just lost it in the last dive.
“It’s all been happening so fast but now I just can’t wait to start scoring points.”
