Callum Kennedy may not be happy with being knocked out of the FA Cup on Saturday, but he is happy to play anywhere on the pitch for AFC Wimbledon.

The full-back, who scored his second goal in as many appearances in the 2-1 defeat to Forest Green Rovers, picked up the man of the match for his performance.

Kennedy has been playing a more advanced role since his return to the side last weekend after a family bereavement.

He said: “I’m obviously not used to playing left-midfield, but putting balls in the box and delivery is one of my strengths, so playing there sort of gives me a bit more license to try and do those things and help the team.

“I still need to work on my positioning. I’m learning the position a bit better when both in and out of possession, just to make sure that I give myself the best chance so that when I do get the ball I can show my strengths, rather than just aimlessly wasting energy trying to cover different areas that I probably shouldn’t be in.”

He added: “I’ll always do a job wherever I’m asked to play, but of course I’m a left-back in my eyes, I want to be playing left-back.

“That’s where I’ve played my whole career and that’s where I feel most comfortable, but I’m thoroughly enjoying playing left-midfield.”

Kennedy drew the Dons level with a great strike into the top corner, but admitted the goal felt bittersweet.

“In hindsight it doesn’t mean anything when you lose the game, but obviously it’s always nice to score of course, especially when you don’t normally,” he said.

“It’s obviously a very disappointing result.

“You always want to go through the first round of the cup, especially when I felt we were on top pretty much the whole game, but just lacked maybe that final pass, that little bit of quality just to carve them open.”
