Usually football managers will wax lyrical after handing out a 7-0 beating to their near neighbours, but not Ks boss Tommy Williams.

The closest the former Carshalton Athletic boss and Ks midfielder came to talking up his side after their 7-0 win over Met Police on Saturday was to concede the most important thing to him was keeping a clean sheet.

Williams knows there is a long way to go in the Ryman Premier League race – particularly after opening the campaign with a pair of defeats – and he is deliberately trying to keep his players’ feet on the ground.

A Dan Bennett hat-trick and strikes from Pelayo Pico Gomez, Peter Dean, Jake Kempton and Ty Smith were well worth shouting about.

But Williams preferred to focus on the other end of the pitch.

“A week is a long time in football and after two defeats I wanted a positive reaction,” he said.

“It was a terrific performance. We were clinical with taking our chances and thoroughly deserved the win, but the most important thing was to keep that cleansheet.

“I’ve been banging on at our wide players and midfielders that we need more end product and we got it.”

He added: “Football can change very quickly, as we have just seen, but we have set the standard now and we have to make sure we maintain it.”
