Kingstonian defender Aaron Goode refuses to dwell on past disappointments, which is just as well given the events of the past week.

Having kicked-off the new Ryman Premier Division season with a 2-1 defeat at Leiston on Saturday, Ks were then torn apart by Leatherhead at Kingsmeadow on Monday night.

A Vas Karagiannis double and a Phil Walsh header saw the Tanners go into half-time 3-0 ahead.

It was compounded by a straight red card for dangerous play dished out to left back George Wells, who lost his cool just before the break having been given the run-around by Karagiannis.

Although Ks gave boss Tommy Williams the response he wanted in the second half, only the post prevented Tanners increasing the scoreline.

Goode, who made his debut in 2012, said: “It was one of those games where I cannot explain what happened – it was not good.

“Leatherhead were tough to deal with at times, but it was mostly down to our mistakes – they punished us, and with the red card it made it 10 times harder.”

He added: “Tommy wanted a response in the second half. Everyone knew the first half was bad, so that’s all he wanted.”

Despite the scoreline and inept first half performance, Goode is extracting positives from the match and already thinking the visit to Kingsmeadow of Met Police tomorrow [Saturday].

“It was a bit better after the break, we kept a clean sheet and we have to build on that in training and come again against Met Police this weekend,” he said.

“You can take some pluses out of the second half performance, but we lost to a very good Leatherhead side.

“There is no point dwelling on it, because if you do, you take it into Saturday. That’s a new game – we have good players and good management, so it will change.”
