Sutton United boss Paul Doswell has kick-started the fightback at Gander Green Lane with the first of a host of promised new signings.

After a season of disappointment ended with a 2-1 defeat at home to Maidenhead United on Saturday, United finished 15th in the Conference South table.

Ten players have signed new contracts, and Doswell is hoping to bring in up to five new names.

One name on his wish-list is Bath City winger Ross Stearn, who is close to penning a deal.

Doswell has confirmed the re-signing of Jason Brown – the goalkeeper was key to United’s play-off push two season ago, and he has returned following the relegation of Dartford from the Conference Premier.

His arrival could spell the end for Aaron Howe, who deputised for Wayne Shaw last weekend.

Doswell said: “We’re delighted to get Jason back, and Ross scored 16 goals in 20 appearances for Bath City playing on the wing.

“He’s been selected for the England team and he’s been under-used by Bath – he would be great for us.”

He added: “I also want a centre forward target man, two wingers and a central defender.

“Damo [Scannell] is going back to Bromley, but we’re talking with them to bring him back.”

New contracts have been signed by Jamie Collins, Kevin Amankwaah, Callum Hart, Louis John, Glen Southam, Craig Dundas, Dan Fitchett, Bedsente Gomis, Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick and Billy Medlock.
