Adedeji Oshilaja has no idea what will happen come the end of the season, but the AFC Wimbledon loanee has the best of both worlds, writes Jens Raitanen.

The 22-year-old central defender joined the Dons from Cardiff City academy in January.

Dons boss Neal Ardley saw Oshilaja’s potential in 2011 when he was the academy coach in south Wales, giving him his break at a professional club.

Oshilaja has made 16 senior appearances for the Dons, scoring one goal, and has impressed in the Ardley’s backline, leading the manager to say: “He is better than this level and he’s proving it.”

While Dons have benefitted from his good form and may want to keep him on, it also means Cardiff City are likely to want their man back.

Either way, for Oshilaja it is all about developing his fledgling career.

“Will I sign for Dons in the future? You never know,” he said.

“I’ve always said I wanted to play at the highest level possible and I believe wherever that will take me, God help me, I will go all the way to the top.

“But I’m here now and I need to take it step by step and keep myself at this level by playing week-in week-out and doing well for the team.

“But you never know what can happen, but playing at A-level men’s football is going to develop my career.”

He added: “It helps that I know the gaffer here. He boosts a lot of confidence in me, which helps me to go out and play my game, which is what I’m trying to do every week.

“[Before joining Cardiff] I was going to go to Cambridge United, but then a scout saw me when I was playing in a charity match.

“He recommended me to Cardiff and the gaffer gave me the chance to show what I can do.

“Cardiff is a great club, I’m not going to lie to you. The fan base is amazing and the people at the club work very hard.

“They haven’t been performing as well as they want to be, but my experience, even with Mr. Tan, has been excellent so I wouldn’t say anything bad about the club.”

Despite his affection for the Bluebirds, Oshilaja is all about the moment and the drive to get Dons into the League Two play-offs.

Such is his commitment he bagged his first senior goal in the 2-1 win over York City.

He said: “I can’t remember the goal. I’ve been doing a lot of heading with Neil Cox and he’s been taking a lot of time to help me out, but I’m not sure where I was.”

He added: “Since I been here, I haven’t thought about Cardiff too much.

“I just been thinking about AFC Wimbledon, I’m an AFC player at the moment so this is where my head has been at.

“When it comes to the end of the season I will review my status there and hopefully I will have done well enough to merit myself a place in the team, but right now I’m here and trying to help the team get as high as possible.”
