Surbiton Ladies head to Nottingham Trent University this weekend knowing promotion to the Indoor Hockey Fives Championship Premier Division is theirs to lose, writes Colin Pike.
England internationals Sarah Haycroft, Georgie Twigg and Rebecca Herbert were all on target as their team won their opening four matches in the first weekend of the competition to top the Division One table.
Twigg notched four, Herbert two and captain Haycroft one as Bristol Firebrands were beaten 11-2 in the opening match on Saturday, before Ipswich were thrashed 7-1 with Herbert (two) again among the scorers.
Twigg hit a brace as did Natalie Maclean in a 5-3 win over Buckingham on Sunday, and Sarah Page did the same to secure a 3-2 win over Leicester hours later.
Surbiton face the division’s bottom three teams – Horsham, Olton & West Warwicks and Wakefield – this weekend.
Surbiton will commence the second half of their MHL Premier Division campaign well prepared next month.
Head coach Todd Williams, currently second in the table, returned to outdoor training this week ahead of the competition’s resumption on February 7.
They travel to north London rivals, Hampstead & Westminster for a mid-season friendly on Sunday.
