Epsom & Ewell are crossing the Channel to play in France – but they are not playing in Euro 2016.

The Salts are travelling to Chantilly, north of Paris, and the base of the England squad during the European Championships.

They have been invited by the Mayor of Chantilly to represent the Three Lions in a non-League Anglo-French match against US Chantilly.

The action kicks off at 5pm on June 18.

The Salts missed out on promotion from the Premier Division of the Combined Counties League last season – but a fourth place finish has boss Glyn Mandeville in confident mood ahead of the French encounter.

He said: "We don't know the relative strengths of the non-League game between England and France.

“But we are going over on the back of a good season, sowe hope to put on an entertaining display.”

Epsom and Chantilly have been twinned since 1995, primarily due to both having famous racecourses within their boundaries.

Club chairman Pete Beddoe added: “We’re grateful to the Epsom town twinning committee, who have provided some support for travel costs.”
