One of England’s 1966 World Cup Heroes has called for the trophy to return to South Norwood.
The Jules Rimet Trophy was found in Beulah Hill by Pickles the dog in 1966 and Gordon Banks, part of the World Cup winning team, has said the trophy should come back in 2016 to mark the 50th anniversary of it being found.
Community campaigner South Norwood Tourist Board has called for the now-retired trophy to be brought back to the spot for the anniversary of the canine’s find.
Banks spoke in Croydon on Monday as part of a new campaign by Barclays to get older people online.
