Doswell backs Beavers to survive

Sutton United boss Paul Doswell insisted there was no bad blood between him and Hampton & Richmond Borough chief Mark Harper after Tuesday’s 2-2 Blue Square South stalemate.

Struggling Hampton twice levelled Joel Ledgister’s brace in a spirited second-half display that the Beavers boss felt was inspired by a heated exchange between the two managers in the tunnel at half-time.

United defender Osa Obamwonyi’s sending-off after the break saw James Simmonds’ penalty level Ledgister’s 24th minute opener, before the Sutton striker saw his second goal equalised by Charlie Moone.

The draw came after Saturday’s 3-2 win at Chelmsford, thanks to a Craig Watkins double and Craig Dundas’ late winner.

But the Gander Green Lane chief, who takes his team to Thurrock this Saturday, remained philosophical.

“It doesn’t matter who it is you want to win your home games, but when you look at it I’ll take four points from two games,” he said.

“There were some things said, but as far as I’m concerned it is resolved. I spoke to Mark and their chairman and there is no problem.”
