It’s been a Bank Holiday weekend of mixed fortunes for Sutton United, but a return of three points from the two fixtures can be considered a success.

I’m sure many feared the worst after a 4-0 hammering at Chester, but as those who managed to make the trip up would tell you it was a scoreline that flattered the home side, although realistically the Blues were a solid unit and deserved their win.

What I saw as a positive of that Saturday was all the United supporters staying until the end and applauding off the side, still singing, despite the 4-0 defeat.

Togetherness is key in football and there is certainly togetherness in abundance at the club at the moment.

To their credit, the players responded excellently on Monday against Dagenham, starting brightly and never letting the away side get a foothold in the game.

It was nice to Bradley Hudson-Odoi get himself on the scoresheet and I’m sure he’ll get plenty more opportunities to impress in the coming weeks.

Ross Worner deserves a mention as well – what an incredible save from that late Dagenham free kick to keep his side ahead and ultimately secure the points.

Indeed all afternoon he looked confident in everything he did, from kicking to collecting crosses, and fully deserved the praise he got.

So it’s another long trip north on Saturday, all of 620 round miles to and fro to Gateshead, for what will be another tough fixture – and aren’t they all in this league?

It can be quite hard to predict how sides can perform against United on the day, take Chester for example, but I think the victory over Dagenham shows that Paul Doswell’s men can beat anyone on their day.
