Saturday saw yet another win for Sutton United on another day where the performance was solid and the result fully deserved.

The main talking point of the game before the start was the fact that Nicky Bailey, returning to the club after more than 11 years and a successful career in the Football League, was handed a starting place despite having being involved in very little competitive action all season.

Once again though, Paul Doswell called it right and Bailey had an excellent game for United, helping them along the way to victory.

The signing of Bailey was a massive coup for United, and may well give that boost needed to get across the line and gain promotion this season.

Strength in depth, as we all found out in the 2013-14 season, is vital for teams challenging at the top end of the league and it’s certainly something that Doswell’s men have this season.

Another little break from league action is coming up this weekend in the form of an FA Trophy last 16 clash against Bognor Regis.

The Rocks are a Ryman Premier Division side, but are challenging for the title and have a very good chance of reaching the National League next season.

After beating fellow title challengers Hampton & Richmond on Saturday, Bognor have won all six of their games in January and will go into the game at Gander Green Lane full of confidence.

Despite their lower league status, there is no doubt that Bognor Regis will provide a very tough test for Uniteds in their quest to reach Wembley.
