Paul Doswell has revealed that Sutton United keeper Ross Worner walked into the dressing room to a round of applause after his heroics against Gosport Borough on Saturday.

The former AFC Wimbledon shot-stopper saved two penalties, including one from former United striker Jamie White, as well as pulling off a string of top-class saves to keep the marauding Borough attack at bay in the final moments of the game.

Worner also pulled off a string of saves in the 1-0 defeat at Ebbsfleet on Tuesday, including one first class save to deny Fleet's star player Jordan Parkes.

Unsurprisingly, after the Gosport game, Worner was named man of the match and walked off the pitch to a standing ovation from fans, and that continued in the privacy of the dressing room.

Doswell said: “Ross probably deserved the game that he had, because he has been playing very well but unfortunately an odd error – such as Truro – has popped in.

“But we know we have one of the best goalkeepers here we’ve had since Kevin Scriven.”

He added: “More importantly, he’s a great lad and he has brought into what we’re doing.

“He’s very popular and he got a big round of applause when he walked into the dressing room, and rightly so.”
