Hampton & Richmond Borough striker Charlie Moone responded to joint boss Paul Barry’s red card blast with a late match winning double against Hendon on Monday.

Strike partner Dave Tarpey and Moone both saw red in the first half – the first for an alleged stamp and the second for using abusive language towards referee Chris O’Donnell – as the Beavers crashed 2-1 to Ryman Premier League play-off chasing Lowestoft Town.

Moone’s reaction was to come off the bench on Tuesday with his side trailing 3-2 to Hendon – having led 2-0 at half-time – to first level matters on 78 minutes and then fire a stoppage-time winner.

Barry has been left frustrated by his side’s indiscipline in recent weeks that has seen men collect a host of yellow and red cards.

And Moone, who took his season’s league tally to 31 goals, was only too happy to a smile back on the manager’s face.

“I’ve never been sent off in my career and it did not feel good,” he said.

“By the letter of the law the referee was right to send me off, but I thought it was harsh.

“I’m not condoning what I said, but it takes a lot to be sent off for foul and abusive language in our game. It was the sort of thing said on the pitch every week.

“Monday was the perfect opportunity to make up for it.

“It was a great way to win the game and I was really happy to get two goals.”
