Sole striker gives Barry a Hampton headache

Hampton & Richmond Borough joint boss Paul Barry has admitted concern is growing over his side’s over-reliance on the goals of Charlie Moone.

The 24-year-old struck his 17th goal of the season on Saturday as the Beavers lost 2-1 at Canvey Island – their first league defeat since September.

The result leaves Hampton, who crashed out of the Ryman League Cup 3-1 at Met Police on Tuesday, languishing in the bottom half of the Ryman Premier League table.

Moone’s exploits are bound to attract attention from other clubs, and Barry does not want to imagine life without his hitman.

“We’re creating plenty of chances it just seems that no one else wants to score goals,” he said ahead of Saturday’s FA Trophy trip to Basingstoke Town.

“If Charlie does not score, we don’t score and that has been our problem all season.

“There are always going to be other clubs looking at him, but he tried Boreham Wood last year and that did not fit with his work commitments.

“Hampton fits his life at the moment. He is a massive part of what we are doing and he enjoys the way we are playing.

“We just need to get more goals from elsewhere.”

Karle Carder will miss tomorrow’s game due to his suspension.
