I’m starting to get a sense of déjà vu at away games at the moment, with Eastleigh being the latest in a streak where we could easily claim to have been the better team yet still come away with a defeat.

If truth be told it was only a five-minute spell of madness that killed us on Saturday, and for the last half an hour or so we had the Spitfires defence terrified with attack after attack being mounted on their goal.

As Eastleigh manager Ronnie Moore tweeted after the game it was only goalkeeper Ryan Clarke that secured them the win in the end.

It’s disappointing, but there’s no need for despair – the actual performances are good, but strong performances must be turned into results.

Next Saturday’s opponents, Guiseley, are struggling for form at the bottom of the table, but I’m sure there won’t be any complacency from United, especially after the Braintree game a few weeks back.

While the Lions are without a win this season many of their defeats have been by narrow margins, showing the Yorkshire side will certainly be no walkover.

Looking slightly further ahead it’s not too long until United enter the FA Cup at the fourth qualifying round, with that game taking place on October 15.

Assuming a safe mid-table place is secured this season cup competitions gain an extra importance, with the opportunity for a bit of excitement away from the league.

Indeed there’s a very real Wembley chance on offer in the FA Trophy now, with many of the so-called top sides not taking the competition particularly seriously.

If dominating performances are turned into results, United will have no problem performing strongly on all fronts.
