The wins just keep on coming at Sutton United, with the latest success against Macclesfield lifting us to third in the National League table after five games.

It was another three points thoroughly deserved with Paul Doswell’s men dominating the first half, before doing a professional job of seeing out the second half.

The second goal in particular was a joy to watch – a beautifully worked passing move allowing Bedsente Gomis to slot home in the 37th minute.

Again it could even have been more with Nicky Bailey’s free kick striking the bar and Macclesfield keeper Craig Ross making a few good saves.

The second half was, by comparison, slightly flat as a spectacle, but didn’t need to be lively with United firmly in control.

The red card given to the visitors’ Andy Halls ended the game as a contest really, but there could be no complaints over it – it was a disgusting challenge.

So it’s back on the road at the weekend with the 470-mile round trip to Chester to come.

Sutton United 2-0 Macclesfield highlights.

The Blues were predicted by many to struggle down the wrong end of the table this season and their results so far have echoed that.

It certainly won’t be an easy game though; the one victory they’ve had this season was against one of the title favourites Dagenham & Redbridge.

Indeed, their 1-1 draw at Boreham Wood on Saturday was by no means a bad result.

It will be interesting to see the line-up and tactical approach Doswell employs, given the multitude of options available to him.

This ability to keep opponents guessing could be crucial to keeping the positive results coming.
