Well what an utterly fantastic season for Sutton United - winning the National League South title was way beyond any pre-season expectation.

It is yet to really sink in to be honest, but it has to be said that the title was thoroughly deserved.

Having been to all but one game this season I can honestly say that the commitment from the players has never been less than 100 per cent, and the quality for this level of football is unbelievable.

Both of these things were reflected in the Chelmsford game itself which saw a solid 2-0 lead set up before the break, which was then comfortably protected in the second half as the supporters went into party mode.

I can’t single out any particular player for praise as that would be harsh on every other player – each and every one of them have been brilliant all season.

The praise goes beyond the players as well - we are lucky enough to have the best management team we could possibly dream of, and the board and everyone behind the scenes are brilliant and beautifully in touch with the support – it is a key reason I fell in love with non-League football and Sutton United in the first place.

SUTTON UNITED: Emotional Doswell hails best ever achievement in football

Once again the supporters have been excellent this season, following the side everywhere and responding to Paul Doswell’s calls to raise the noise at home.

Next season promises to be an exciting one with the prospect of several long trips to new places up north, as well as renewing rivalries with Bromley and Woking.

Let’s not forget also the brilliant TV coverage BT Sport will provide next season (almost as good as SUFCTV…) which will help to promote the club on a national scale.

With the cheap season tickets offer and the step up in divisions, crowds at Gander Green Lane next season could rocket to well over 1,000, hopefully pushing on towards an average of 2,000 given the large away followings from sides such as Tranmere Rovers that can be expected.

I’m confident we’ll do well next season given what Dover and Braintree are achieving, but whatever happens it will definitely be a great experience.

For now though, like many others I’m sure, I’m happy just taking it all in and enjoying the moment.

Next weekend’s trip to Oxford promises to be a great party occasion, with hordes of the amber army making the trip up by coach, car and train to support the newly crowned champions.

Let’s make sure we give the players the reception they deserve.
