It’s as you were at the top of the National League South table after Saturday’s results, with the top three sides all drawing.

In truth, Sutton United did everything but score against Weston-super-Mare in a match they completely dominated from start to finish.

Several players had off-days in front of goal, but it happens to everyone and with so many goals scored by the team in recent weeks it would be harsh to criticise too much.

However a reaction is needed and a victory at Gosport on Saturday would realistically be required to continue title hopes.

It would be no disaster if Sutton did not win the league this season – indeed at the start of the season a play-off place would have been considered a great achievement given the low finish last time round.

United still have an interest in the Surrey Senior Cup with a chance of reaching the final on Tuesday night if they can overcome Southern Division One Central side Godalming Town.

Godalming have been something of a bogey side for Paul Doswell’s men, defeating them not once but twice in the Surrey Senior Cup final, but were hammered 6-0 in January 2012 with Kyle Vassell netting a hat-trick in just over three minutes.

Godalming then will be relieved Vassell has long since moved on, but they still have plenty of reasons to be afraid of those in amber if a strong side is played.

There will be several players either looking to help their breakthrough to the first team with a few goals, as well as some simply looking to put the lack of goals at the weekend behind them.

If those strikers can hit the form they’re capable of then United will be very confident of reaching the final
