The FA Trophy is a wonderful added extra on top of the league campaign and has got the Sutton United supporters dreaming of Wembley.

While the National League South is ultimately the priority a Trophy run will do no harm and may even be an important confidence boost on the way to the play-offs.

It was great to see the good run continue on Saturday even if United were not at their best – nine wins in the past 10 games really is incredible form.

The one danger of such strong form is that confidence could take a significant knock when the run does eventually end, but I’m confident that the current squad have it in them to deal with it well and bounce back when it happens.

What we saw in the Curzon Ashton game was a battling, gritty performance rather than a fantastic fluid one, but it got United through to the next round and that’s all that matters in cup football.

The buzz around Gander Green Lane at the Trophy game was clear to see, with the clappers working brilliantly and the vocal efforts from the terraces throughout the game impressive.

In tight games the supporters can be the difference between getting a win or a draw, and I’m delighted that we as supporters were able to contribute.

It is likely that the Dartford game next week will be a similarly tight game.

The Darts have not lost in the league since October and sit just two points behind United in the standings.

A large crowd is expected for what should be a great game which could be vital come the end of the season.

It is down to the supporters to do their bit again, as they did so well in the Curzon Ashton game.
