Kingstonian boss Tommy Williams has hoped for match winner Brendan Murphy-McVey.

The former Carshalton Athletic youngster, who switched to Kingsmeadow in the summer, marked his senior debut foir the club with the winner in Monday's 1-0 win over Hendon.

Murphy-McVey, who studied at Hollyfield School, only rejoined the club at the weekend, having spent the start of this term on loan at Tooting & Mitcham United.

And with Pelayo Pico-Gomez and Ricky Sappleton still struggling for full fitness, Williams is looking forward to what is to come from the midfielder.

"We signed Brendan in the summer because we think he has a bright future ahead of him," said the manager.

"He has been at Tooting to get some get some game time. We've kept an eye on him and he has been playing very well.

"He came in at the last minute and responded by scoring the winner on Monday with a great finish. We have high hopes for him."

Another player thrown in at the deep end on Monday was former ex-Woking striker Reece Beckles.

The 20-year-old Antigua & Barbuda international, who started his career at Aldershot Town, was released from Kingfield last week and signed for Ks on Monday morning.

"Reece has not played an awful lot of football over the last couple of years," added Williams.

"We put him straight in the team and he literally did not know anyone as he walked out on the pitch.

"He did really well given the circumstances and we managed to get as many minutes as we could out of him."

Alan Inns missed Monday's win with a foot injury suffered in the weekend's FA Cup second qualifying round exit at Dunstable Town, while Aaron Goode is set for three weeks on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury in the same game.

One of Pico Gomez or Sappleton could feature in Friday's trip to high-flying Grays Athletic, while Inns is expected to return.

"We were desperately disappointed to not get the cup win, but we put in our worst second half performance of the season and deserved to lose," said Williams.

"We got the reaction we wanted on Monday and it was an excellent result considering the injury situation."

He added: "Grays have a lot of pace and experience, so it is going to be a tough trip.

"We are going to have to be at our very best to get something out of the game."
