Pelayo Pico Gomez’s double strike to land Kingstonian a first Ryman Premier League win since September came as no surprise to boss Tommy Williams, writes Stuart Amos.

The former Corinthian Casuals striker bagged a brace and Elvis Hammond the winner as Ks won 3-2 at Witham Town on Tuesday to counter Saturday’s 3-1 FA Trophy exit at Ryman Division One North strugglers Barkingside.

Pico Gomez, signed by Williams in the summer, has barely featured for his new club in his favoured position due to a persistent hamstring problem and the presence of Andre McCollin.

McCollin’s departure and Pico Gomez’s return to fitness saw the 21-year-old Spaniard deployed up front at Witham and the manager is hoping that means no wholesale changes at Kingsmeadow.

“Pico’s struggled with an injury, but I know what he can do,” he said.

“But we played him in his preferred position and that is what you get.”

He added: “Any team would miss a player like Andre [McCollin], with his work rate and goals.

“We have had to make one or two tweaks to compensate and that takes time to settle.

“We were disappointed with the defeat on Saturday. We will need to make a few changes to make sure we are in budget, but not too many.”

Ks host Harrow Borough tomorrow and Williams knows that, while his side are a little adrift of the promotion race, they can reclaim some ground on their rivals.

"Football can change very quickly," he added.

"The mid-week win lifted us six places in the table and if we can build a bit of momentum we can quickly be where we want to be."
