Hampton & Richmond Borough boss Alan Dowson says he is feeling no added pressure ahead of judgement day on Saturday.

The Beavers boss watched his men crash 3-0 at home to Grays Athletic as their FA Trophy campaign ended before it really began at the weekend.

The former Kingstonian chief, who took charge at the Beveree last month, had told fans he wanted to be judged after the Grays clash and this Saturday's Ryman Premier League trip to Bury Town.

The weekend defeat means the jury is still out on Dowson's new signings - particularly because only loan goalkeeper Mark Smith, striker Tiago DeFreitas, midfielder Saheed Sankoh, 19-year-old Zaki Oualah and midfielder Jake Ross, of his more recent acquisitions, were on show.

The manager hopes to have defender Kieran Murphy, striker Nicholas Bignall and midfielder Bedsente Gomis available for the weekend.

And it is then that he hopes fans will start to see his team and philosophy take shape.

"We are not where we want to be and I am having to do all my pre-season work now, which is not ideal," said Dowson.

"Of course there is pressure, but there is always pressure to win matches.

"I enjoy it and I'd much rather have all the pressure on me than on anyone else.

"The board have been absolutely different gear and supported me in making new signings.

"Of course they are not happy with results, but they are behind us.

"I want to be judged on my team and my players and we will get it right."

Dowson has not given up hope of landing former AFC Wimbledon winger Brendan Kiernan and remains confident he will be with the Beavers at Bury this weekend.

"He wanted a little more time to think about it. I have not heard anything else, but hopefully things have not gone cold," he added.
