Nathaniel Pinney does not know much about Ryan Moss, but the former Crystal Palace striker does know a season like his predecessor could fire him back to the big time and Kingstonian to the Ryman Premier League title.

The 23-year-old announced himself as a Ks player with a double in Saturday’s 3-0 training match win over Walton Casuals on Saturday, a match that also featured a goal from strike partner Andre McCollin.

Former Carshalton Athletic frontman Pinney switched to Kingsmeadow this summer having enjoyed a prolific spell under new Ks boss Tommy Williams at Colston Avenue.

Moss, the man he replaces, formed a partnership with McCollin that yielded more than 50 goals between them and landed the former AFC Bournemouth trainee a move to big spending Ryman Premier League title favourites Margate.

Pinney started his career with Palace, but left Selhurst Park in 2012 having failed to make much of an impression during loan spells at Dagenham & Redbridge, Woking, Braintree Town and Ebbsfleet United.

The loss of his mum almost saw him quit the game, but a prolific spell with the Robins persuaded him otherwise and having found his feet early at Ks he is hoping Saturday’s brace is a sign of things to come.

“It is nice to get up and running early. That is what pre-season is all about. Getting minutes and scoring goals,” he said.

“I don’t really know a lot about Ryan so I do not feel any pressure.

“All I know is that he scored a lot of goals.

“I just want to work hard for the team and see where that takes me.

“I’m still young, so hopefully I can have a good season at Ks and get back to playing at a higher level where I should be.

“I played against Ks and it is a decent club and we can help each other get where we want to be.

“But it is a case of scoring goals and having a good season and then seeing what happens next year.”

Ks added ex-Leicester City man Elvis Hammond to their ranks this week, but Pinney does not feel threatened by the competition.

“I know Andre scored a lot of goals last year, so hopefully we can hit it off on the pitch.

“With Elvis coming in too there is going to be a lot of competition.”
