Carshalton Athletic captain Lewis Taylor was left “gutted” after the Robins narrowly lost against promotion-chasing Lowestoft Town.

Not only did the Robins succumb to the visitors’ only shot on target, which came 13 minutes from time, they did so after playing with only 10 men for more than 65 minutes after Tony Sinclair was dismissed for a professional foul.

The defeat leaves the Robins second off the bottom of the Ryman Premier table, just two points ahead of Cray Wanderers, and six points adrift of safety.

Taylor said: “The first 20 minutes were very even and I didn’t feel like we were ever in too much danger even after the red card.

“They put us under more pressure after the restart but we weathered it and created, yet failed to take, a couple of good chances ourselves.”

The midfielder thinks there cannot be too many complaints about Sinclair’s early bath as the defender denied Town striker Jake Reed a clear run on goal.

“Tony was the last man unfortunately,” he added. “We’ll lose him for three games now but we have a bit of depth to our squad – Adriano Moraes came on and did well, plus we have Charlie McCarthy to come back.”

Taylor further lamented the loss of “at least a crucial point” as Carshalton continue their battle against relegation against title-chasing Dulwich Hamlet this Tuesday.

“The spirit within the squad is high at the moment and we are getting used to a new system,” Taylor added.

Off: Tony Sinclair saw red after a professional foul

“We won at Bury Town last week and did not disgrace ourselves overall today, but we need to start putting more points on the board.

“We’ll need to be solid from front to back on Tuesday against a Dulwich side renowned for their passing style. If we do that, and keep our heads, I’m confident we can get something against them.”
