Ks striker McCollin targets quarter century goal target
Andre McCollin might be looking to renegotiate his goal bonus at Ks, and it is not hard to see why.
The 28-year-old former Yeovil Town striker netted 23 in 42 appearances last year and has hit his stride quickly this term with nine in 11 games.
He scored five in two games last weekend and was up to his tricks again with a goal in the 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Margate on Saturday.
That is a good return in anyone’s book and comes after a relatively barren pre-season on which boss Alan Dowson might have negotiated McCollin’s terms.
“That is just the way it goes,” said McCollin, pictured below, last week.
“I did not score many in pre-season and now I’m flying.
“I’ve been working hard on my finishing in training and trying to get in the box in the right place at the right time.
“The goal against Bognor must be the easiest I’ve ever scored.
“My target is 25. I have no comment about my bonus, but I’ll be having a word with the gaffer.”
And as for Ks chances of promotion this term having failed to capitalise on a good start to the campaign last time round, McCollin is hopeful.
“I hope we are good enough to win the league. We do not want to have to go in the play offs,” he added.
“I don’t think it is as strong a league as last year and I don’t think there will be many better sides than us this year.”
Kingstonian go to Hendon tomorrow with Dowson keen to return to winning ways with the chance of returning to the top of the Ryman Premier League table the main incentive.
“We are one point off the top of the table so we could be back up there at the weekend,” he added.
“The cup game hurt us all for 48 hours, but I’ve been to watch Hendon and we have had a friendly with Cobham since then, so we are back up and running.
“Hendon and Bognor Regis Town are the two best footballing sides in this league.
“They’ve not lost in their last five games. They’re flying and we are too, so it is game on.”
