Bash's Ks winner leaves Dowson smiling

Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson reckons 11 more like Bashiru Alimi would make managing Ks a dream after watching the midfielder net what proved to be the winner at the weekend.

The 27-year-old, in his second spell with the club, hit his first goal since returning to Kingsmeadow from Carshalton Athletic in October as Dowson’s men completed the double over Canvey Island with a 2-1 triumph on Saturday.

Alimi’s 37th minute effort in his 16th appearance of the season added to Bobby Traynor’s early opener as Kingstonian returned to action in style from an enforced three week break.

Dowson added Grays Athletic midfielder Luke Hickie to his squad this week as he prepares for the remaining 19 games of the campaign that will decide his side’s Ryman League Premier Division play-off fate.

And the manager, delighted with the resources at his disposal, reckons his new arrival could do worse than follow the example of seasoned campaigner Alimi in making his Ks career a success.

“Bash is a proper club fella. He played on Saturday with a broken bone in his hand. He is that sort of bloke,” he said.

“He never hassles me about money, never hassles me about where he is playing. He just loves playing for Kingstonian and that is all he wants to do.

“If I had eleven more like him my life would be a lot easier.

“We haven’t got a bigger squad than we had, but it is stronger. To have players like Tommy Williams and Liam Collins not able to get in the team says everything.”

Dowson’s men entertain Margate this Sunday knowing his side crashed 2-1 at Hartsdown Park earlier in October - a result that ended a run of four straight league wins at the time.

Ks face Harrow Borough in ten days time knowing they put five past them in the opening weeks of the season and the Kingstonian has challenged his side to erase that memory.

“The start of the season was a very sad place for us. I was a couple of defeats away from getting the sack,” he added.

“We set a target then of not letting anyone do the double over us.

“We’ll be going to Margate knowing it is our chance to put right the defeat earlier in the season and we’ll be going hell for leather for it. We need another three points to keep ourselves in there.”

Kingstonian’s next three matches: Jan 31 Margate (h), Feb 6 Horsham (a), 9 Harrow Borough (a).
