Collins keen for Ks second chance

Kingstonian midfielder Liam Collins says he has not given up on his Ks career, despite being told he is surplus to requirements.

The 27-year-old has not started a game for Ks since a 5-0 defeat to leaders Dartford in the opening weeks of the season.

Collins, currently under contract at Kingsmeadow, has spent two months on loan with Leatherhead, but has hardly played since damaging ankle ligaments in a Ryman Division One South clash with Whitstable Town in November.

The former Walton & Hersham man – currently in his second spell with the club played a large part in the club’s title success last season making 31 appearances and scoring two goals.

And he is out to prove he can hold down a first-team slot if he can get some match practise under his belt.

“It has been frustrating considering I played a lot of games last year, but having got back training with the boys I’d like to think I’ve still got a future at the club,” he said.

“If I can get myself fit and get some games under my belt – on loan or otherwise – I’d like to be given a go, because I’m confident I can play at this level.

“I was flying when I went to Leatherhead and Alan said if I played like that I’d get back in his team, so hopefully there is still a chance for me.”

Dowson has turned things around since a horror start to the campaign, to now see his side sitting third in the Ryman Premier League.

Collins was a victim of the clear out that prompted the recovery, but his contract means he is tied to the club and he admitted it is the only reason he is still with Ks.

“I don’t think I’ve had fair crack of the whip this year, but that is up to Dowse and I can’t complain too much when they are doing so well,” he added.

“I think I only played a couple of games when he told me he wanted to get rid of me. If it wasn’t for the contract I’d have been long gone.

“We still get on it is just that I’m not in his plans at the moment. It would be great to get another chance in a team playing with confidence rather than getting beaten every week.”

Kingstonian’s next three games: Jan 16 Waltham Abbey (a), 18 Wealdstone (h), 23 Canvey Island (h).
