Kingstonian boss Tommy Williams hopes the return of an old favourite signals the end of his side’s injury crisis, writes Stuart Amos.

Defender Bruce Hogg returned to action in last week’s League Cup penalty shoot-out win over Hendon after missing last season with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

Williams, who has welcomed back Alan Inns, Ricky Sappleton and Pelayo Pico Gomez from injury in recent matches, is monitoring Hogg’s progress and believes he could be a key contributor for his team this term.

“I actually recommended him to Alan Dowson [former Ks boss] when I was manager of Carshalton Athletic, so know what a player he can be,” he said.

“Unfortunately he did his knee in the last game of the season before I took charge, so he never played for me last year.

“He has done all his rehab and is getting back into it and I think he will be a real asset if we can manage him right.”

Williams watched midfielder Daniel Sweeney switch to promotion rivals Dulwich Hamlet at the weekend and has vowed to replace like with like.

"Daniel felt now was the right time to move on and Dulwich was the right option for him," he added.

"When we signed him he was a talented lad with potential to go on. He wasn't at his best last season, but he has been excellent this year.

"He had a trial at Woking in the summer and when that did not work out we welcomed him back and offered him a new contract, but he did not want to sign it.

"We will be entitled to a small amount of compensation for him because of his age, but I leave that business to the respective boards to sort.

"We are looking at other options and there maybe a new face coming into the group within the next couple of days."

Ks followed up Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Billericay Town with a 1-1 draw at Hendon on Monday night.

And the Kingsmeadow chief prefered to accentuate the positive ahead of Saturday's trip to Tonbridge Angels.

“You need to follow up your draws with a win, so I was probably more unhappy with Saturday’s result after Monday’s draw,” added Williams.

“We had the chances to get six points from two games and instead we got two.

"But we will take the postives from it in that we are still unbeaten.

"We knew it would be tough at Hendon because we expected a reaction from them having been beaten 5-0 on Saturday. It is never the easiest place to go.

"There were some good individual performances. Malachi Hudson scored a terrific goal, Peter Dean played well and Sam Page was excellent."
