If boss Tommy Williams did not know the importance of his Kingstonian men improving their home form– he does now.

The Kingsmeadow chief apologised to supporters for his side’s lacklustre display in a 1-0 defeat to struggling Harrow Borough at Kingsmeadow on Saturday, before his Ks responded with a resounding 3-1 triumph over Met Police on Monday – a first league win at home since August.

And it might have been a gentle reminder from co-chairman Mark Anderson – in the post-match changing room at the weekend and in Monday’s programme – that got the message across.

“I think the casual supporter - who comes in to watch five or six games a season - when he turns up, he wants to be entertained,” he said in the club’s matchday programme.

“He wants to holler and be entertained.

“And I don’t think over the last four or five years that we’ve been good enough at home in those snapshots to grab the fans and keep them.

“If you go to university and adopt a team while you’re there, within five or six games, you’ll start talking about “we” and “us”, because that’s what football does, it grabs you.

“We haven’t had enough of those “grab” games to keep the casual fans coming.”
