Johnnie Jackson was bemused by Rotherham manager Steve Evans’ hysterical appeals for a late penalty late during the Addicks’ 1-1 draw at The New York Stadium on Saturday.

Charlton took the lead after 27 minutes as Johann Berg Gudmundsson cut inside on his left foot and placed a low shot in at the far post beyond Scott Loach in the Millers’ goal.

The second half, however, was dominated by the hosts who deserved the equaliser gifted to them after Tal Ben Haim surrendered possession in his own half before Luciano Becchio eventually headed home at the far post.

A cross into the area struck Jackson on his upper torso and prompted frenzied demands for a penalty kick from the home dugout, although the Charlton skipper strongly denied any wrong doing.

Jackson said: “It was a ridiculous shout.

“The referee was right there, it hit me on my badge pretty much.

“I couldn’t believe the meal they were making of it to be honest.

“He (Steve Evans) is obviously that sort of character.

“They’re at home trying to put pressure on when they were in the ascendancy in the game.”

Despite playing well and taking the lead in the first half, Charlton were lackluster in the second.

And the skipper admits this maybe something which needs addressing.

Jackson said: “You see it so many times in football - momentum shifts and you wonder how it can happen because we were so in control.

“It’s obviously something we need to look at because it has happened in the last few games where we’ve had good first halves and been well on top and invited pressure second half.

“I don’t know if it’s something to do with having the lead and that mentality, or something we need to look at and work in the week because it has happened a few times now.

“It’s easy to play when you’re on top but when you’re under pressure you know it is more difficult.

“I think it’s something we’ll be addressing because it’s happened last three games where really we’ve ended under the cosh a little bit.”

Despite the costly loss of possession from Ben Haim as Charlton looked to play the ball out on the floor, the midfielder insisted the team would not look to abandon Bob Peeters’ footballing philosophy.

He added: “That’s the way the gaffer has drilled into us, we’re going to play it out from the back.

“It’s just collateral from that; it is going to happen from time to time.

“If it does, we carry on and we still do what were good at.

“There won’t be any finger pointing, we just move on and carry on with the next game.”

Charlton have scored in every match this season in stark contrast to last year when the SE7 side was the third least prolific side in the Championship.

And talismanic midfielder Jackson was happy see Gudmundsson get off the mark.

“Johan got his first today, I’m sure he’s going to score a few more.

“We’ve always got goals in us whereas last season it was a big problem. We’ve addressed that.”
