Addicks head coach Bob Peeters was satisfied his team were able to take a point from today’s 1-1 draw in what was a difficult test at Rotherham.

Charlton took the lead after 27 minutes as Johann Berg Gudmundsson cut inside on his left foot and placed a low shot in at the far post, beyond Scott Loach in the Millers’ goal.

The visitors didn’t want the first half to end as they finished it strongly, with Johnnie Jackson and Rhoys Wiggins both coming close to extending their lead.

The second half, however, was dominated by the hosts and they deserved the 70th minute equaliser gifted to them after Tal Ben Haim surrendered possession in his own half with Luciano Becchio eventually heading home at the far post.

Peeters was pleased his team’s unbeaten start to the season remained intact, but accepted it was a sloppy goal for his team to concede.

“When it gets to 1-1 you worry that it could get worse,” the boss said.

“It was unnecessary and the lads were not too happy because of course they say we’ve given it away.”

However, the Valley manager was not keen to dwell on the error from Ben Haim.

Peeters said: “It was not a chance, it was our possession, my defender made a bad touch and you concede a goal.

“It’s an unnecessary goal, but people make mistakes and we continue.

“Before the game you’re always happy with a point away.

“First ten minutes, they (Rotherham) were playing not too bad but then I think we control the game and we score a good goal.

“We knew second half they were coming out and then they will make it physically tough for us, but I think we stood our ground.”

The Belgian also felt that despite Rotherham’s superiority in the second half, it was his side that had the clearest opportunity to claim all three points when Frederic Bulot saw a shot scrambled off the line by Loach at the second attempt.

“In the last seven or eight minutes we tried to play the ball a bit better again and I think we had the best chance with Frederic Bulot .

“The goalkeeper saved his team two times, so at the end you could still win it.”

Peeters quickly played down any suggestion of a major falling out with the home team’s manager Steve Evans after the pair did not shake hands at the final whistle.

The Addicks boss said: “Apparently he’s a bit angry with me.

“I always go first to the referee with my players.

“I’ve had it one time where I went straight to the manager and I nearly ended up in a fight (with Wigan manager Uwe Rösler), so now I got straight onto the pitch.”

Peeters added: “I’ve nothing against their manager - he’s doing his job, I’m doing my job and afterwards we drink a beer no problem. I’m going in to have a drink, if he lets me!

“I’m always like that, he was maybe a bit angry.

“I think we will sort that out later. I’m not frustrated.”
