Bees midfielder Alex Pritchard reckons England U21s are good enough to avoid simply scraping through to the European Championships finals.

The 21-year-old was last week selected in Gareth Southgate’s squad to take on Croatia over two legs in a play-off to reach next summer’s showpiece.

England host their rivals at Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Molineux home tonight before travelling to Vinkovci next week for the decider.

Pritchard only made his U21 debut against Lithuania last month, but goes into the match in top form, having found the net in Saturday’s 3-1 Championship win over Reading.

He netted his side’s second – after Jota had opened the scoring – and also crossed for Jonathan Douglas to head home the third.

And the Spurs loanee is confident England are more than capable of getting the results they need to be on the plane bound for the Czech Republic next year.

“It is good for me personally to be selected,” said Pritchard.

“We have got to concentrate because it is a must win game.

“We have got home and away games, and Croatia are a good team.”

He added: “But with the squad we have, we have got to go there and do what we can do.

“We can go and win home and away.

“We have got to go there with confidence and be a good unit.”
