AFC Wimbledon manager Terry Brown has wielded the axe and transfer-listed five of his squad.
James Mulley, Charles Ademeno, Ryan Jackson, Lee Minshull and Max Porter have all been deemed surplus to requirements as Brown's attempts to free up room to bring in new additions this month.
Porter and Ademeno are perhaps the most surprising having only joined the club in the summer but Porter has struggled to adapt to life at Wimbledon and Ademeno has spent a lot of time on the treatment table.
Mulley, Jackson and Minshull all played roles in helping the Dons to promotion last season, but have found it difficult to maintain a first-team spot.
“This has not been an easy decision," said Terry Brown.
"I would love to have kept faith with the whole squad for at least a season but, unfortunately, our results dictate we have to react to our recent form.
"The club has to make room for new signings we will be bringing into the club over the next week, prior to the Port Vale fixture.
"We felt we needed to act early in the transfer window to give each player the best possible opportunity to find another club.
“These players have made a massive contribution to the success over the last two years and we would like to wish them every success in their future careers.
“We are seeking to strengthen the squad and, so far as new signings are concerned, we have made considerable inroads regarding at least four players.
"We hope to finalise those deals early next week.”
