AFC Wimbledon defenders Darius Charles and Will Nightingale were put on the spot by students in a Q&A session last week.

The two centre-backs, currently preparing for the Dons debut season in League One, took time out to attend the opening of Ark Putney Academy in Wandsworth.

AFC Wimbledon Foundation coaches were also on hand to take coaching sessions.

Junior Hayden, the head of PE at Ark Putney Academy, said: "It was great to have the players and foundation coaches down with us at our grand opening.

"The coaching staff worked with our year seven and eight boys and girls, who had a wonderful experience.

"They were given coaching and had the opportunity to ask the players questions as well as photo opportunities. It was thoroughly enjoyable."

Charles said: “It's fantastic to come down to these type of events and try to inspire kids to get into sport.

"It's always nice to try and add some value to their lives and hopefully inspire them to go on and make a career in football themselves."

Nightingale added: "I'm a local boy, so it's good to come down and speak to some of the young children and tell them what it's like to get involved in football."
